Tell us your proposal story
We were supposed to travel to Costa Rica in March, where Cam had intended to propose. However, as our travel plans fell through due to COVID, Cam was scrambling to come up with an alternative.
Throughout the COVID “lockdown” we would have weekly themed date nights: 80’s rock, disco, Costa Rican beach night, and finally, fishing and a picnic. We went to a local fishing spot where we fished, drank champagne, talked, and ate. The night in itself was beautiful.
As the sun started to set, I started to get cold and asked if we could go home. As we began to pack up he said, “There is one more thing we need to do before we go…” then got down on one knee and asked me to marry him.
How we met
Cam and his family moved to Stettler in 2007 and into a house a few doors down from mine. His younger brother and I are the same age, and Cam is the same age as my older brother, so it didn’t take long for our paths to cross.
As a teenager, Cam was a Dad’s nightmare: mischievous, wild, and rebellious. As a teenage girl, I was naturally drawn to him. If I was in trouble, it likely involved Cam to some extent (he tells this story a little different, but we will go with my version).
After Cam graduated, we lost contact.
Five years later, our paths crossed again. This time, I was living in Red Deer with my friend, DJ, while attending college. DJ is best friends with Cam’s younger brother, Cody. During the winter, Cam and Cody were also attending RDC in the carpentry program. Cody had asked DJ if it was possible for the two of them to stay at our place when the roads were bad, rather than make the drive back to Stettler.
The first night that Cam and Cody were staying over, I avoided going home. I knew that if our paths crossed again that something would develop between the two of us, and I didn’t know if I was ready for that. I spent almost two hours at Petland; which, you can only spend so much time at Petland before you buy a pet or get offered a job. So eventually, I had to go home, and here we are six years later.
Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?
Yes and no.
We were together for a year before we decided to take a break. At this time, we were both so young and so focused on our own goals that it was difficult to envision a future together.
After a year apart, we decided to get back together. After we made this choice, I think we both knew that we would end up together.
Favourite part of your relationship?
Cam loves our adventures. We are both quite outdoorsy, and when we have free time, we try to spend it outside; either fishing, camping, paddleboarding, hiking, etc.
For me, I love the small moments: arguing over whose turn it is to buy ice cream, endless games of crib, planning new projects for the house, or our silly antics.
What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?
Cam is excited to build a family, and I am equally excited to see him become a Dad.
I am looking forward to the life we build and the things that we will accomplish together, as a couple, and as individuals. It is so exciting to watch your person grow into the best version of themselves and attain their goals.
Why did he or you choose the ring you did?
I am a girl with a vision. I have had my eye on this ring for years and saved and resaved it to my Pinterest multiple times. Mike and Cam both knew exactly what I wanted. Cam added a few personal touches to make my dream ring even more exquisite.
How did you hear about Lawlor Jewelry?
The Lawlor’s are my “second family”. Cam knew that having a ring from Lawlor Jewelry was as important to me as having my dad’s blessing.
