      Kaylea & Jacob

      Kaylea & Jacob

      The proposal story

We travelled to Mexico-- 'Jake’s first tropical vacation', and while I was taking a nap, Jake wrote me the sweetest love notes and left them on the bed. He ordered champagne and dessert to our room and set it up on the balcony. When I woke up, I found the notes he’d left, one which directed to me to the balcony. He had set up our tripod and camera to capture the moment, but in his nervousness, pushed the photo button rather than record. It was the best moment of my life, and we laugh about the camera mishap.

      How we met

Jake and I met for the first time in junior high at a dance! We ran into each other frequently throughout high school, but didn’t end up together until later.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

A happy surprise! I’ve always had a crush on Jake. They say love happens when you are least expecting it, and we both believe that. We went on one date and were inseparable after. I was living hours away and neither of us were anticipating having a long-distance relationship, but we are so glad to have found each other when we did!

      Favorite part of your relationship?

We have a lot of fun together. Getting to be with your best friend every day is the best feeling!

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

There are so many things we are excited for, like experiencing new things together, travelling, and eating good food!

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

Jake said he saw the ring and thought it suited me. That it was different than any ring he’d seen, and thought it was just beautiful. I actually did not have any part in choosing the ring, and I was honestly very impressed with Jake’s choice. I love that it’s simple, unique and timeless.

      The proposal story

I got home from work late one night, and came home to find my favorite flowers, lilies, in a vase on the table with a note saying be ready by 10:00am for a surprise date. With limited details-- we started driving West towards the mountains. Chris pulled into the Rockies helicopter tour! I thought he was joking. I'd never been on a helicopter before and was very excited and oblivious for this awesome date. Ralph was our ever so eclectic pilot: an old boy who referenced his ex-wife a few too many times. He flew us over the Rockies, glaciers and icefields before landing upon Minister Mountain where Chris took a knee and I took his name.

      How we met

We met through our mutual friends, Blair and Cassandra. He was the best man, and I was a bridesmaid in their wedding. We were introduced at their engagement party-- we didn't know they had their own matchmaking service and that we were their first and only customers.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise

Our first "date" was exceptionally awkward, so no. I didn't want to get mixed up with someone while our friends wedding was being planned, but did pursue Chris afterwards. He took me on a boat ride in Sylvan Lake. Well, the boat wouldn't start so it was more like a boat sit. I thought it was best that we stay friends and not disrupt the group dynamics. Turns out that line was crossed and here we are.

      Favorite
       part of your relationship?

Just being comfortable enough to push each other for our goals, and supportive enough to let each other relax when we need it. Our whole life is an adventure and we wouldn't change that for anything.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

All of the new adventures we will experience every year together.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

He designed the engagement ring. We did have some discussions of likes and dislikes prior. I found out later that he nearly had a different design printed until I told him it was terrible when he was asking my "hypothetical" opinion, unbeknownst to me- it was actually in the works lol. He found that I loved the uniqueness of the pear cut. I think it's timeless, old-fashioned, and elegant. Rose gold is also a love of mine. I designed the wedding band to complement his engagement ring. Again, I love to be unique, and found a tiara for on top of the pear, with a high polished rose gold band to be exquisite. Made me feel like a queen. He chose a solid black band as he doesn't wear jewelry, to begin with, and felt it suited him nicely.

      Our proposal story

It was my birthday, Colin and I were having a chill night-- and I thought it would be fun to get out of the house and go for a drive. We went to our special spot in the coolies, and got out to enjoy the calm and relaxing atmosphere. We were hugging and looking out to the beautiful surroundings when Colin went down on one knee and asked me to MARRY HIM!! I went into shock-- I was not expecting anything like this to happen on our evening stroll. I said YES! We were both just over the moon in excitement and enjoying the moment. Then we both agreed that it was time to tell our family! My family doesn’t live around the Stettler area-- so we called and let them know the exciting news. Then we drove over to see Colin’s parents and informed the rest of his family to follow!

      How we met

We both like to chuckle over how we met. It was in the middle of haying season on the farms. I was floating the land, and Colin was cutting hay for his boss. I was bored in my tractor so I went onto Tinder thinking that I was going to delete the app from my phone, and as fate would have it-- Colin was also bored in his tractor and went onto the app as well. Not expecting anything out of it and just living life to the fullest, we ended up finding our true love forever! Colin and I chatted multiple times over the phone for two weeks before we went on our first date together. During one of our phone chats, he asked me if I liked flowers. It didn’t even dawn on me that he was getting these details for our first date. A lot of people told Colin that he didn’t need to do flowers, but Colin being the genuine great guy he is, figured why not and surprised me! By the end of our first date, we both knew that we didn't want to lose each other from there on out.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

Yes, we both figured we would end up together. From all the morning, mid-day and late-night conversations-- to the laughs, giggles, strength, and encouragement we offered one another. Waking up knowing we had our forever friend to help up out on the sunniest to darkest days, made our relationship even more rewarding!

      Favourite part of your relationship?

Our favourite part of our relationship is knowing that we always have each other's back whenever we need it. The continuous laughs we share and all of the blonde moments that I'm always having. Most importantly the one-on-one time we get to spend together.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

We are looking forward to seeing our relationship continue to grow, starting a family together, and eventually buying our place together.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

Colin custom-designed the engagement ring with Mike. The reason Colin choose my ring is that the elegant, yet simple design matched my personality.

      Why Lawlor Jewelry?

It is a local family-run business that has always been great to the community and our family. They are just incredible people to work with on any project you can think of!

      Alicia & Nick

      Alicia & Nick

      Our proposal story

We were spending the weekend in PEI, visiting Nick’s brother. Nick surprised me with a romantic dinner, starting with chocolate-covered strawberries, flowers, and a card. He asked me as soon as we reached the table- he said he was too nervous to wait any longer!

      How we met

We met online! He was in Edmonton for trade school, and I was in Red Deer finishing nursing school. The first 6 months of our relationship were long-distance.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

This is a tough one! Nick is originally from Nova Scotia, and I had a feeling he would always want to move back there, and I never saw myself leaving Alberta. So, I guess I didn’t really think we would end up together, logistically. It turns out love was enough for me to leave Alberta and move across the country! We have been living in Nova Scotia for 2.5 years now.

      Favorite part of your relationship?

My favorite part of our relationship is that we are friends first. Nick is always making me laugh, and we enjoy each other's company even when we aren’t doing anything exciting.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

We just bought our first home together, and we're really excited to start a family! We are both extremely family centered, so we can’t wait to have children, hopefully one day soon! I love that we are friends first. Nick is always making me laugh, and we enjoy each other's company even when we aren’t doing anything exciting.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

I’ve had my eye on a ring similar to this for years. My friend Sarah and I would send each other different ring pictures back and forth all the time. This simple design was perfect for me. When Nick was ready to buy a ring, he wanted to know what I liked/wanted so, I showed him pictures of my favorites, and he nailed it.

      Why Lawlor Jewelry?

Anyone who grew up in Stettler knows that Lawlor Jewelry is the place to go when getting engaged, especially if you want something custom. I have always wanted a custom ring that I knew no one else would have. So when Nick started talking rings, I put him in contact with Mike. They started the planning and designing process! Nick said that Mike made the process so easy and he loved working with him.

      Maddie & Tim

      The proposal story

In July, we took a day off to spend some time together. I planned a date in Kananaskis where we were going to hike Troll Falls and visit the Nordic Spa. I was not the slightest bit suspicious as I had planned the date. While we were hiking, Tim was practically running up the mountain. I asked him what his deal was, and he said he was worried about running into a bear. Which was not like him at all. However, when we got to the top it all made sense as he got down on one knee and proposed.

Now a little back story, a few weeks prior-- my friends had thrown me a surprise party for my university graduation. At this get-together, Tim faked proposing. So, when he got down on one knee under the waterfall, I thought he was pulling my leg again. I used some very colorful language and told him this wasn’t funny. But, when he held up my dream ring, I knew he was serious. The proposal couldn’t have been more us. It will forever be one of my favorite days.

      How we met

Well, Tim and I are what some might call high school sweethearts. We started dating when I was in grade 9 and Tim was in grade 11. However, this relationship didn’t come easy. I had been very persistent since I was in grade 6. I met Tim through our best friend Ally Hamel. We actually went on a double date when I was in grade 6, but-- it wasn’t with each other. From that moment on, I was on a mission. I even went to the extreme of blowing up Tim’s phone one weekend from my Text Plus account and then told him my friend had my phone for the weekend with high hopes he would answer me. Flash forwards a few years later, he finally answered me, and we went on a lunch date to A&W. The rest is history.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

Although there was significant resistance from Tim in the beginning… He said after our first date, he knew that we would end up together. As I had mentioned above, I was persistent. After meeting that tall, ginger boy from Erskine I had high hopes that we would end up together. Boy-- am I ever glad I was that 12-year-old girl with a goal in mind.

      Favorite part of your relationship?

I think both agree that our favorite part of our relationship is that we are truly doing life with our best friend. We can laugh and cry together-- and just be our most genuine selves. For me, I think my favourite part is the small moments. Spending a night in watching hockey, going on a road trip, and just slowing down to enjoy our time together. Tim’s favourite part is learning and growing together. We have grown up together and he appreciates that we have each other to go through the good and the bad
      times with.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

We look forward to growing our little family and building our lives together. I know that Tim is going to be the most amazing Dad, and I cannot wait to watch our dreams become a reality. We have truly grown up together-- and we cannot wait to grow old together. I am excited to continue to experience all aspects of life with Tim by my side. There is no one else I’d rather grow old and wrinkly with.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

I think my Pinterest board and best friend, Ally-- were fairly helpful in the design process of my ring. Tim took in one of my late grandmother’s rings so that some of the diamonds could be incorporated into my ring in her memory. Although, I had dropped some hints. This ring Tim helped design completely surpassed my expectations. It is the most beautiful, timeless piece of jewelry and I cannot wait to wear it for the rest of my life.

      Why Lawlor Jewelry?

Being a Stettler girl and having known the Lawlor family for most of my life-- it was
