      Morgan & Parker

      Morgan & Parker

      The proposal story

Parker was quite sneaky about his proposal! After designing my ring, he spent a few months conversing with my sister and best friends about how and where to propose.

It was Christmas morning; we woke up, had some coffee, made some breakfast, and we began opening each other's presents in our living room. After we had gone through our stockings and sufficiently spoiled each other with gifts, he pulled out a book I had written for his birthday about all the reasons why I loved him.

He flipped to a page where he had written, “A Christmas proposal. This book has made a lot of miles in my truck, and whenever I see it, it reminds me of my love for you. Will you marry me?”

The only thing I could focus on was the word proposal, as he reached for the small box sitting on our mantle. At that point, I was crying, and he said he blacked out, and he could barely finish asking me to marry him before I said yes and had the ring on my finger!

      How we met

Parker and I both grew up in the town of Stettler, separated by only two years in school, yet our paths never crossed until we were in our 20s. A few years after high school, I joined the Shit Kids, a ball team that is now filled with my closest friends and soon-to-be family members!

During my second season with the Shit Kids, we were at a tournament in Bashaw in August of 2018, a late ball tournament and one that we were not sure if we were even going to play in. I had grown to be very good friends with Drew (Parker’s younger brother) and Sky (Drew’s then-girlfriend, now wife), who were on the team, and on that weekend, Parker passed through Bashaw on his way home from work.

While watching the home run derby, Sky started working her magic and tossed around the idea that Parker and I should start talking. We began talking and casually seeing each other but didn’t officially date for quite a long time.

However, while Parker was away at work and I was in university, we would call each other every Sunday and have great long chats, and I knew that he would become a very special person in my life. We began dating in May of 2019 and have been inseparable ever since.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

I think i knew before we were even dating that Parker was the man I wanted to marry. One of the biggest characteristics I was looking for in a partner was kindness, and Parker is one of the kindest and most generous souls I have ever met, even when he tries to put on a stoic front.

We had gone on a trip to Mexico shortly before we started dating, and on one of the excursions, we were supposed to swim through a dark tunnel, and we needed goggles to do so. One lady had forgotten to bring her contacts, and the goggles wouldn’t go over her glasses, so Parker proceeded to guide her all the way through the dark tunnel, alerting her to deep areas, sharp rocks, and sudden corners.

Not only is he extremely kind and thoughtful, but he is probably the hardest working man I know, and we both challenge one another to continue to grow as individuals and as a couple. He embodies all the characteristics I want and need in a partner, and I am so thankful that he is my soon-to-be forever partner in this life.

      Favorite part of your relationship?

My favorite part of our relationship is that he's truly and fully my best friend. He is the one I want to spend all my happiest days with, the one I want to confide in and run to when I've had a bad day, and most importantly, the one I want to grow old and grumpy with.

We enjoy many of the same activities, such as camping, side-by-siding, playing hockey, and travelling. We also enjoy competing against one another (in the most friendly manner), and we even have a crib scoreboard in our house where he is beating me by quite a significant amount. We are constantly trying to out-wit one another, and there is so much joy in my life when we are around one another.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

I look forward to building a life in Stettler, hopefully on an acreage, where we can raise our kiddos and new puppy Cash, just like how we were both raised.

I also look forward to spending many hours attending our kids’ sporting/extracurricular events, whatever they may include. We are both determined to coach our kids in hockey and already have a competition about who will be the better coach!

I mostly look forward to the many more memories I will get to share and create with him. I even look forward to the mundane, busy, or messy memories as I know he will be right by my side through it all.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?
I definitely gave some pretty strong hints about what I would like, but he and Mike custom-designed my ring, and it blew any expectations I had out of the water!

I have always loved the look of a three-stone ring as it is traditional and is said to represent a couple’s past, present, and future. However, my favorite detail on my engagement ring is that it has 19 stones on it (by a total fluke), and 19 is my favorite number!

      Why Lawlor Jewelry?
Parker and I are local Stettlerites and try to support local businesses where we can. Parker has bought a few pieces of jewelry for me from Lawlor’s over the years, and I wear them every day.

The whole team at Lawlor Jewelry is so fantastic to work with and craft the most stunning pieces of jewelry, which made them the obvious choice for our rings.

My engagement ring, wedding band, and Parker’s future wedding band, have been purchased at Lawlor’s because we know and trust that the quality will be exceptional and last a lifetime!

      The proposal story

It was an event, to say the least lol. Here is the short of the long: Bobby...he’s such a patient man. It took him hours to get me to a private location on Parksville Beach in BC. When he finally got me somewhere where there wasn’t an audience, he looked off into the distance, thought he saw a pod of whales and asked me to check it out on my zoom lens. I didn’t even hesitate! Whales?!! To my surprise, when I turned around he was on one knee. I tried so many times in the past to envision what my feelings would be in that moment...and even though I’ve experienced it, I’m still not sure how to describe it. But I cried...so much lol. The best part was how he asked me... "Wanna be my wife?” and I appropriately responded with, “Ya”. And then I said thank you haha.

      How we met

Funny enough, we lived in the same town, went to the same high school, and knew some of the same people... But our paths wouldn’t cross until 3 years later after Bobby graduated and moved to Stettler while I was still in school. My sister and I worked at the same restaurant for a bit, and when Bobby came back to Airdrie to visit friends, he would have breakfast at the restaurant and hang out with my sister. One day she introduced us... And on that very same day, Bobby offered to drive me home after work, I texted my mom, told her I was getting a ride home from a guy, and then we drove around talking for 4 hours... It was the most instant connection I’ve ever had with someone.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

I knew I wanted to be with Bobby for the rest of my life after only being together for 2 months. I was only 17 at the time. I knew what I wanted and who I wanted to be with. I didn’t doubt it then and I don’t doubt it now.

      Favorite part of your relationship?

Bobby is my Soulmate. We do everything together and we always have. Our relationship is honest, silly, and sometimes secret. We love to laugh, we make each other laugh, and we support each other. No matter how tough life has gotten, we come out better than we went in.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

Whatever comes next! Some of the things we’ve talked about for so many years are about to happen. or aren’t too far ahead from today. Marriage, babies, and maybe a home? Seems so traditional and yet, the relationship goals we had that once felt so far away, are now so close to becoming real. I’m getting butterflies just thinking about it.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

Oh man...this incredible ring was a TEAM effort I think. Bobby had seen a jacket wedding ring/band in Lawlor so many years ago and I just didn’t care for the Style to be honest. I knew I wanted a cushion or round halo and Bobby carried that with him for sure! What surprised me was how much he cared about the diamond and included my birthstone into the ring as well. I’m so happy he got to work with Mike on that part of the ring! Then I got the privilege to be apart of the second portion of the ring. When Bobby was describing the idea to me, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it. So naturally (because I’m so impatient) I tried googling or building the ring he was describing and kept getting double halo rings. I was sold once I saw that. What’s so cool about the ring is each component that went into it making it came from so many different perspectives and made it the piece it is now. I love my ring so much because of the amount of thoughts and opinions that went into it.

How did you hear about Lawlor Jewelry?

We chose Lawlor because of so many things! We have been shopping with Lawlor for years, they're a local business, their product quality is always the best, there is so much care for customers in the store, we were remembered/greeted by name each time we entered the store...and not just by Mike and Alexis...but by all the staff! Lastly...its the overall genuine atmosphere. It’s that family feeling and it’s the kindness. That's why ♥️

      The proposal story

We sledded up to the Olive Hut on top of Catamount Glacier for a two-night stay (if you research the hut you might think we are insane lol). Once we got up to the hut, Ryan got down on one knee and asked me to be his adventure partner for life! We then popped a bottle of champagne and cooked up a pot of dehydrated pasta. It was the perfect evening!

      How we met

I was at Lake Louise waiting in line for the chair when I heard my name get called. I turned around and a guy I had seen before while working as a waitress at Earls was calling my name. We then ran into each other at the chalet during lunchtime, he and his friends joined us for lunch and some drinks. We then went for a couple of snowboards laps together and we have been together ever since.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

      We both think so. <3

      Favorite part of your relationship?

Our thirst for adventure and our love of food.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

Retiring in a small mountain town with as many dogs as we can fit!

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

He chose it because he knew I loved it from the first time I saw it and didn't stop sending him pictures and hints of it for 4 years.

How did you hear about Lawlor Jewelry?

A couple of my girlfriend's rings came from Lawlor Jewelry and they are exquisite. Also, I worked with Mike back in the day at West 49 and thought it would be cool to support his family business!

Kirk rented a small plane for us in Calgary. I thought we were heading to Stettler to have lunch with my Mom. Shortly after we took off, Kirk told me that the plane was running low on oil and we needed to make a quick stop in Sundre before continuing on our journey. As soon as he landed the plane, I saw a cute dog running towards us. I say to Kirk, “Look there’s a wiener dog here!” We climbed out of the plane and I quickly realized... “Wait, that’s our wiener dog!”. Henry (our dog) ran right up to the plane with my ring tied around his neck. Kirk got down on one knee as he untied the ring. It truly felt like a movie!

      How we met

Kirk and I met through working at WestJet. He was a junior Pilot and I was a junior Flight Attendant. We hit it off as friends right away, we went for dinner at a pub in Kamloops that evening.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

Kirk and I were friends for about a year and a half before we starting dating; he was always so kind and respectful so I had no idea that he had feelings for me. For me, it was a happy surprise. For Kirk on the other hand, he said that he knew almost immediately. One of the first pairings we worked together we had a 30 hour layover in YellowKnife. There's not a whole lot to do in the -40 YellowKnife winters, so our crew of four drank at the local brewery. Later that day I had the most embarrassing moment of my life. I dropped a bottle of red wine in Shoppers Drug Mart and it smashed everywhere! Kirk had a good laugh over it. After that, we got lost walking around the town and eventually ended up sharing a platter of chicken fingers at a restaurant. The next day Kirk told our Captain, “I’m going to marry that girl one day.”.

      Favorite part of your relationship?

My favorite part of our relationship is that we truly are best friends that have the utmost respect for each other. Whether its travelling, boating, snowboarding, or having a rave dance party in our PJs at home, we’re always doing something fun together. I feel so lucky that I found someone who shares the same interests and passions as I do.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

I’m looking forward to experiencing all life has to offer, with Kirk by my side. The thing I am most excited for is building a family together. We also have a lot of travelling we want to do, it's an ever expanding list of destinations.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

There is something so timeless about a solitaire diamond, but I also wanted something slightly unique. I have always loved pear shaped stones. Kirk did a great job of researching different diamonds and settings and decided to go with the hidden halo with diamonds on the band. I couldn’t be happier with his choice!

How did you hear about Lawlor Jewelry?

Lawlor Jewelry was one of my first places of work in High School. The Lawlor family has always been so good to me, it would have been an obvious choice for me to have my ring made by them. Not to mention, I know that Lawlor Jewelry sells nothing but quality. Kirk and I live in Calgary, so I didn’t want to pressure him into buying from any specific store. Kirk emailed Lawlor Jewelry to inquire about diamonds and Mike immediately knew who Kirk was after only meeting him briefly a year prior. That's the type of service Lawlor Jewelry provides; everyone is treated like family.

      Tell us your proposal story

Robert and I had a weekend getaway planned to Jasper. It was just the two of us to do some hiking and cross-country skiing. On our first night, we got dressed up and went for dinner and drinks. Our hotel had a beautiful outdoor fire pit with the mountains as a background. When it was just the two of us, Robert got down on one knee and proposed. After I said yes I found out that Robert had driven ten hours in one day in a snowstorm to ask my father's permission to marry me, knowing how important this was to me. We spent the rest of the evening calling all of our family and friends.

      How we met

It all started with a swipe to the right. We went to Bower Ponds where he had planned a picnic and a walk on our first date where Robert spent the entire time staring far too long at me and being terribly nervous. I’m still not sure how a second date came out of that!

Did you know you would end up together after you met or was it a happy surprise?

The day after our first date, Robert sent me a text that asked “Did you have a good time last night?”. After that, I knew that he was someone special. Dating isn’t easy these days as so many assumptions are made, but Robert was the exception. We have always had clear intentions in our relationship which I think is rare, especially at the beginning.

      Favourite part of your relationship?

Oh my gosh, do we ever laugh! Whether it’s kitchen dancing with our little guy, an impromptu wrestling match or laughing over something ridiculous one of us has said. We love sharing our lives together, and doing it while truly being happy is the best feeling.

      Short or long engagement?

We have a date set for the end of October. We’re hoping the pandemic cooperates, we are ready and excited to start our life together as a married couple.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

Robert is already an amazing father to his son Robbie and we cannot wait to see where life with our little family takes us. We have big aspirations career, life and family-wise and love that we get to have a partner to support and share all of these moments with along the way.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

Robert sat down with Mike and made this custom beauty of a ring. I had always wanted a pear shape and rose gold but hadn’t imagined it would be this beautiful. It’s more than a piece of jewelry to me; it has mine, Robert’s and Robert’s son’s birthstones within it, accents of my grandmother's wedding band as well as Mike and Alexis’ creative touch- it reminds me of our family every day.

How did you hear about Lawlor Jewelry?

Our best friends happen to own Lawlor Jewelry. Mike and Alexis have been Robert’s best friends and have been there for Robert for years. They welcomed me into their family with such grace. We are beyond lucky to have them in our everyday life.
