Aimee & Robert

Tell us your proposal story

Robert and I had a weekend getaway planned to Jasper. It was just the two of us to do some hiking and cross-country skiing. On our first night, we got dressed up and went for dinner and drinks. Our hotel had a beautiful outdoor fire pit with the mountains as a background. When it was just the two of us, Robert got down on one knee and proposed. After I said yes I found out that Robert had driven ten hours in one day in a snowstorm to ask my father's permission to marry me, knowing how important this was to me. We spent the rest of the evening calling all of our family and friends.

How we met

It all started with a swipe to the right. We went to Bower Ponds where he had planned a picnic and a walk on our first date where Robert spent the entire time staring far too long at me and being terribly nervous. I’m still not sure how a second date came out of that!

Did you know you would end up together after you met or was it a happy surprise?

The day after our first date, Robert sent me a text that asked “Did you have a good time last night?”. After that, I knew that he was someone special. Dating isn’t easy these days as so many assumptions are made, but Robert was the exception. We have always had clear intentions in our relationship which I think is rare, especially at the beginning.

Favourite part of your relationship?

Oh my gosh, do we ever laugh! Whether it’s kitchen dancing with our little guy, an impromptu wrestling match or laughing over something ridiculous one of us has said. We love sharing our lives together, and doing it while truly being happy is the best feeling.

Short or long engagement?

We have a date set for the end of October. We’re hoping the pandemic cooperates, we are ready and excited to start our life together as a married couple.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

Robert is already an amazing father to his son Robbie and we cannot wait to see where life with our little family takes us. We have big aspirations career, life and family-wise and love that we get to have a partner to support and share all of these moments with along the way.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

Robert sat down with Mike and made this custom beauty of a ring. I had always wanted a pear shape and rose gold but hadn’t imagined it would be this beautiful. It’s more than a piece of jewelry to me; it has mine, Robert’s and Robert’s son’s birthstones within it, accents of my grandmother's wedding band as well as Mike and Alexis’ creative touch- it reminds me of our family every day.

How did you hear about Lawlor Jewelry?

Our best friends happen to own Lawlor Jewelry. Mike and Alexis have been Robert’s best friends and have been there for Robert for years. They welcomed me into their family with such grace. We are beyond lucky to have them in our everyday life.
