Miranda & Grant

Tell us your proposal story

It was so special! Every February we spend a weekend in Canmore and usually do some sort of outdoor activity. Well, that year, Grant wanted to take me skiing and I hadn’t skied in years! So Saturday morning we were on our way to Nakiska for an 8:00 am lesson, and when we drove by Barrier Lake, Grant mentioned there was a nice hike around there that he would like to check out. Well, skiing only lasted about 3 hours because it was seriously -30 plus a wind chill, like sooo cold! So when leaving Nakiska, we stopped at this trail at Barrier Lake. I was like, “Are you serious? It’s way too cold for a hike”. Needless to say, he convinced me to go along and a little way into the trail he suggested we take a timed photo. He got the camera set up and I ran down a little hill to pose. As he came down the slope to pose with me, I noticed the camera wasn’t flashing to indicate the timer. I pointed it out, so he went up to “fix it”, then ran down again. And again, I pointed out that it wasn’t flashing. So I decided to go up to fix it myself and I realized it was set to record, not a timer. He said, “Oh my bad” (playing dumb) and came to 'fix it' a third time while I get back into position. Now we’re posing for the third time, the camera still isn’t working, and I am freezing, so I said “Let’s go, it’s way too cold for this” and started to walk away. Grant replied, “Just one sec.” and as I turned back around he was pulling the ring out of his pocket and getting down on one knee! I was in shock! I think I said, “OMG no you’re not” like 3 times! Once I got over my shock, I said “YES!” and to my surprise, Grant filmed the whole thing! Now we’ve been engaged over a year and are 6 months away from our wedding.

How we met

Good ol' Facebook! He says he saw me at the Renschler’s once a long time ago. And I knew of him too as this hottie who was friends with my friend’s older brother.

Did you know you would end up together or was it a happy surprise?

I never saw it coming but it was the most pleasant surprise! Now I can’t picture life without him.

Favorite part of your relationship?

I smile a lot, but I smile the most when Grant is around. He makes life fun and exciting and is often taking me on neat little adventures. He’s an extrovert and I am an introvert but we balance each other out so well.

What do you look forward to for the rest of your life together?

We can’t wait to start a family, Grant is going to be the best protector and partner.

Why did he or you choose the ring you did?

Grant did it all, I didn’t have a clue! He truly made it unique, which is what I love most about it. He always tells me he loves me "Head to toe" and got that engraved on the inside of the band.
